He may not have been what you wanted for me

But you know what? ~ I loved him.

He may have hurt me more times than you could know
His love for me may never have been way out there on show
He may have pushed me further than I thought that I could go
But I loved him.

He may have hurt me deeply so it takes so long to heal
He may have caused me pain that made me think 'it can't be real'
He may have lied and cheated and sunk so low as from me to steal
But I still loved him.

He may not have been the one for the rest of my life
He may have made me live on the edge of a knife
He may have caused me boundless, endless amounts of strife
But I loved him.

You may wish I didn't have to go through it, the sorry years of pain
You may have wished that I didn't go back again and again
You may wish I'd had all sunshine and never the rain
But I don't...
Because I loved him.

I may never have known what I deserve, when a new man comes to call
I may never have known what it was like to give someone my all
I may never have known how strong I was, after such a fall
If I hadn't loved him.

If I hadn't loved him, I wouldn't now be the same
If I hadn't loved him, I wouldn't know true pain

So I'm glad I loved him
