Innocence is nakedness.
As children - no clothes, running around,
guilt free.
As adults - 'private bits', hiding, covering,
guilty.
Children have no idea they're innocent.
Laughing, Playing Troubling.
Nothing to hide.
Adults - innocence breeds shame and labels
'Uncool, Loser, Straight'.
They hide:
behind brick walls...
in leaves of trees ...
in clouds, or blankets.
Nakedness can't be seen.
Personalities are masks.
Worn everyday - without the owner even knowing.
Masks hide: flaws, perceptions and the real you.
People are expected
to act in a certain way
wear a certain mask
according to certain events.
A happy mask, a stern mask
No 'me' mask.
No mask telling people to be themselves.
Life is a facade.
An unwritten play: no script.
Passing by - poste haste.
People playing characters
that they ain't.
So why is it a surprise: SHOCK!
to find out about the hidden?
It's taught, like school:
Hide it! Cover it! Draw the curtain around it!
It should be
no
surprise.
